Adolescent (pronunciation: /ˌæd.əˈlɛs.ənt/) is a term used to describe a young person who is developing from a child into an adult. The term is often associated with the teenage years, although its physical, psychological and cultural expressions may begin earlier and end later.

The term "adolescent" is derived from the Latin word adolescere, which means "to grow up" or "to grow into maturity".
