(a-er'-vah) [Ar.]. A genus of plants of the order Amarantacece. A. lanata, a species native of tropical Asia and Arabia.
It furnishes chaya-root, which contains a mucilaginous principle and has been used as a diuretic, in strangury, and as a depurative.
