American Lung Association

The American Lung Association (əˈmɛrɪkən lʌŋ əˈsoʊsiˈeɪʃən) is a voluntary health organization whose mission is to save lives by improving lung health and preventing lung disease.

Etymology

The organization was founded in 1904, originally as the National Association for the Study and Prevention of Tuberculosis. It was renamed the National Tuberculosis and Respiratory Disease Association in 1968, and finally became the American Lung Association in 1973.

Mission

The American Lung Association's mission is to save lives by improving lung health and preventing lung disease through research, education, and advocacy. This includes efforts to reduce the impact of lung disease, such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), lung cancer, and influenza.
