Anorectic (pronounced: an-uh-REK-tik), also known as anorexic or anorexigenic, is a term used in medicine to describe a decreased or loss of appetite. It is often associated with conditions such as Anorexia nervosa, a psychological disorder characterized by an intense fear of gaining weight and a distorted body image.

Etymology

The term "anorectic" is derived from the Greek word "anorektos", which means "without appetite". It is composed of the prefix "an-", meaning "without", and "orexis", meaning "appetite".
