Architect (/ˈɑːrkɪtɛkt/; from the Latin architectus, itself derived from the Greek arkhitekton, from arkhi-, "chief" + tekton, "builder") is a professional who plans, designs and oversees the construction of buildings.
Definition
An architect is a person trained and licensed to plan, design, and oversee the construction of buildings. To practice architecture means to provide services in connection with the design of buildings and the space within the site surrounding the buildings that have human occupancy or use as their principal purpose.
Etymology
The term architect comes from the Latin architectus, which derives from the Greek arkhitekton (arkhi-, chief + tekton, builder), i.e., chief builder.
