Basaglar

Basaglar (pronounced: ba-SAG-lar) is a brand name for the drug insulin glargine, a long-acting insulin used to control high blood sugar in adults and children with type 1 and type 2 diabetes.

Etymology

The name "Basaglar" is a portmanteau of the words "base" and "glargine", referring to its base as insulin glargine.

Usage

Basaglar is used along with a proper diet and exercise regimen to control high blood sugar. It is used in people with type 1 diabetes (condition in which the body does not produce insulin and therefore cannot control the amount of sugar in the blood) and in people with type 2 diabetes (condition in which the body does not use insulin normally and therefore cannot control the amount of sugar in the blood) who need insulin to control their diabetes.

Administration

Basaglar is administered by subcutaneous injection, usually once a day at the same time each day. The injection site should be rotated within the same region from one injection to the next to reduce the risk of lipodystrophy.
