CAR - A special receptor designed in the laboratory to bind to specific proteins on cancer cells. The CAR is then added to immune cells called T cells. This helps the T cells find and kill cancer cells that have the specific protein for the receptor to bind to. Large numbers of these modified T cells, known as CAR T cells, are then grown in the laboratory and given to cancer patients. CAR-T cells are being studied to treat some types of cancer. Also known as a chimeric antigen receptor
