CRLF1
CRLF1
CRLF1 (pronounced as C-R-L-F-One), also known as Cytokine Receptor-Like Factor 1, is a protein that in humans is encoded by the CRLF1 gene.
Etymology
The term CRLF1 is an abbreviation derived from the term Cytokine Receptor-Like Factor 1. The term 'Cytokine' is derived from the Greek words 'cyto-' meaning 'cell' and '-kinos' meaning 'movement'. 'Receptor' refers to a protein molecule that receives chemical signals from outside a cell. 'Like' is used to indicate similarity or comparison. 'Factor' is a substance that in humans is necessary for a biochemical reaction or process. '1' indicates that it is the first of its kind or series.
Function
CRLF1 is a member of the Cytokine receptor family. The encoded protein is a secreted glycoprotein, forming a heterodimeric complex with Cardiotrophin-like cytokine factor 1, which mediates cell survival, cell proliferation, and cell differentiation. Mutations in this gene have been associated with Cold-induced sweating syndrome.
