Cafeteria

Cafeteria (/kæfɪˈtɪəriə/; from Spanish: cafetería[1]) is a type of food service location in which there is little or no waiting staff table service, whether a restaurant or within an institution such as a large office building or school; a school dining location is also referred to as a dining hall or Canteen.

Etymology

The term cafeteria is an American English term dating to 1860 for an informal, self-service restaurant, which was not necessarily designed to serve a multi-course meal, but to offer hot meals, especially at lunchtime. The word comes from the Spanish word cafetería, which means "coffee shop".[2]
