Chordee

Chordee (/kɔːrˈdiː/) is a medical condition that causes a downward or upward curve of the penis. The condition can occur as a result of congenital abnormalities or due to Peyronie's disease.

Etymology

The term "Chordee" is derived from the Latin word "chorda", which means "cord". This is in reference to the cord-like tissue that causes the abnormal curvature of the penis in this condition.

Symptoms

The primary symptom of Chordee is an abnormal bend in the penis, which is most noticeable during an erection. Other symptoms may include discomfort or pain during sexual intercourse or masturbation, and difficulty urinating.

Causes

Chordee is often associated with Hypospadias, a condition in which the opening of the urethra is on the underside of the penis. It can also be caused by Peyronie's Disease, a condition that leads to the formation of fibrous scar tissue inside the penis, resulting in curved, painful erections.

Treatment

Treatment for Chordee typically involves surgery to straighten the penis. The specific surgical procedure used will depend on the severity of the curvature and the patient's overall health. In some cases, medication may be used to manage symptoms, but it will not correct the curvature.
