Clostridium acetobutylicum - a species of anaerobic, gram positive, rod shaped bacteria assigned to the phylum proteobacteria. This species is motile, sporulating and produces acetone, butanol and ethanol in fermentation systems using maize mash, molasses, and other feedstocks. C. Acetobutylicum is found commonly in soil, lake sediment, well water, and bovine, canine, and human feces.
