College (/ˈkɒlɪdʒ/; from Latin collegium) is an educational institution or a constituent part of one. A college may be a degree-awarding tertiary educational institution, a part of a collegiate or federal university, an institution offering vocational education, or a secondary school.

Etymology

The word "college" is from the Latin collegium (a community, a corporation, a guild), which is the diminutive form of collega (colleague). It directly relates to the term "colleague" and has roots in the concept of being united in a common purpose or duty.
