Computer hardware
Computer Hardware
Computer hardware (pronunciation: /kəmˈpjuː.tər ˈhɑːrd.weər/) refers to the physical components that make up a computer system. The term is derived from the English words "computer", which comes from the Latin computare meaning "to calculate", and "hardware", which has its origins in the old English hordweard, meaning "one who guards treasure".
Computer hardware is divided into two main categories: CPU and peripherals. The CPU, also known as the "brain" of the computer, carries out most of the processing inside computers. Peripherals include input devices like the keyboard and mouse, output devices such as the monitor and printer, and storage devices such as hard drives and SSDs.
