A forest of evergreen trees such as pine, spruce and fir. Natural coniferous forests occur considerably further north than forests of broad-leaved deciduous species, as coniferous trees are able to withstand harsher climatic conditions. The taiga areas of the northern hemisphere consist of coniferous forests.
