Consultancy (/kənˈsʌltənsi/), also known as consulting, is a professional practice that gives expert advice within a particular field.

The term "consultancy" is derived from the Latin word "consultare" which means "to discuss". It has been used in English since the early 19th century to refer to the act of seeking advice from a professional.
