Destination Therapy (DT)

Destination Therapy (pronunciation: des-ti-na-tion ther-a-py) is a medical treatment strategy that involves the use of ventricular assist devices (VADs) as a long-term solution for patients with severe heart failure who are not candidates for or are ineligible to receive a heart transplant.

Etymology

The term "Destination Therapy" is derived from the concept that this treatment is the patient's final or "destination" therapy, as opposed to a bridge to transplant or recovery.
