Detonation

Detonation (pronounced: /dɛtəˈneɪʃən/) is a type of Combustion that involves a supersonic exothermic front accelerating through a medium that eventually drives a shock front propagating directly in front of it.

Etymology

The term "detonation" is derived from the Latin word detonare, meaning "to thunder down".
