Dismemberment
Dismemberment (/dɪsˈmɛmbərmənt/) is the act of cutting, tearing, pulling, wrenching or otherwise removing the limbs of a living thing. It has been practised upon human beings as a form of capital punishment, especially in connection with regicide, but can occur as a result of a traumatic accident, or in connection with murder, suicide, or cannibalism.
Etymology
The word "dismemberment" comes from the Old French desmembrer, meaning "to tear limb from limb," and from Medieval Latin dismembrare "to tear to pieces."
