Electronystagmography (pronunciation: e-lek-tro-nis-tag-mog-raphy) is a diagnostic test used to record involuntary movements of the eye caused by a condition known as Nystagmus. It can also be used to diagnose the cause of Vertigo, Dizziness, and Balance Dysfunction.

Etymology

The term "Electronystagmography" is derived from three Greek words: "electron" meaning amber, referring to the electrical signals, "nystagmos" which means drowsy or sleepy, and "graphy" meaning to write.

Procedure

Electronystagmography involves attaching electrodes to the skin around the eyes and recording eye movements. The test is divided into three parts: Caloric Stimulation, Ocular Motor Testing, and Positional Nystagmus Testing.
