Embase (pronounced: /ˈɛmbeɪs/) is a biomedical and pharmacological database of published literature, designed to support information managers and pharmacovigilance in complying with the regulatory requirements of a licensed drug.

Etymology

The term "Embase" is an acronym for Excerpta Medica database, derived from the name of the print publication that served as its basis, Excerpta Medica, a medical abstract journal.

Description

Embase is a comprehensive, versatile research platform that provides biomedical researchers with the most relevant and reliable biomedical literature. It is a highly versatile, multipurpose and up-to-date database covering the most important international biomedical literature from 1947 to the present day. All Medline records produced by the National Library of Medicine (NLM) are included, as well as over 5 million records not covered on Medline.
