Emergency Services

Emergency Services (pronunciation: /ɪˈmɜːdʒənsi ˈsɜːvɪsɪz/) are the public organizations that respond to and manage emergencies, especially those that require immediate medical attention.

Etymology

The term "Emergency Services" is derived from the Latin word "emergere" which means "to rise out" or "to bring to light", and the Old French word "servise" which means "duty" or "a duty performed".

  • Emergency Medical Services: A type of emergency service dedicated to providing out-of-hospital acute medical care and/or transport to definitive care, to patients with illnesses and injuries which the patient believes constitute a medical emergency.
