Eurasia

Eurasia (/jʊəˈreɪʒə/ or /jʊəˈreɪʃə/) is the largest continental area on Earth, comprising all of Europe and Asia.

Etymology

The term Eurasia is a portmanteau of Europe and Asia. The word "Europe" is derived from the mythological Greek princess, Europa. The term "Asia" is believed to be named after the Ancient Greek word "Ἀσία", first attributed to Herodotus (about 440 BCE) in reference to Anatolia or to the Persian Empire, in contrast to Greece and Egypt.

Geography

Eurasia is made up of two continents, Europe and Asia, and it covers an area of 55,000,000 square kilometers. The border between the two continents is generally considered to run along the Ural Mountains, the Caspian Sea, the Greater Caucasus, the Black Sea, and the waterways of the Turkish Straits.
