Evening

Evening (pronunciation: /ˈiːv(ə)nɪŋ/) is the period of time at the end of the day, usually from about 6 p.m. to bedtime. It is the latter part of the day and early part of the night. During this time, some people may partake in activities such as dining, watching television, or socializing.

Etymology

The term "evening" comes from the Old English ǣfnung, meaning 'the coming of evening, sunset, time around sunset', which originated from ǣfnian meaning 'become evening, grow toward evening'. The Old English word is of Germanic origin and corresponds to Old High German ābunt (German Abend) and Dutch avond.
