Ferumoxtran-10 - (pronounced) (fayr-yoo-MOX-tran…) A substance being studied to improve magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in diagnosing cancer and finding lymph nodes which the cancer has spread. Ferumoxtran-10 consists of nanoparticles (ultra small pieces) of iron oxide coated with dextran (a type of sugar). It is injected into the patient's blood and the particles collect in the lymph nodes, liver, spleen or brain tissue, where they can be visualized on MRI. Ferumoxtran-10 is later broken down and excreted from the body in the urine
