GW0742 (/ɡiːˈdʌbljuːˈzɪroʊˈfɔːrtuːˈtuː/) is a Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR) agonist that is often used in scientific research. It is specifically a PPARδ/β agonist.

Etymology

The term GW0742 is a systematic name derived from the initials of the pharmaceutical company GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) that developed the compound, followed by a unique identifying number.

Pharmacology

GW0742 is a potent and highly selective PPARβ/δ agonist, with a Ki of 1 nM for human PPARδ, and about 2 orders of magnitude less potent for human PPARα and PPARγ. It is inactive against a host of other nuclear hormone receptors.

Medical Uses

GW0742 has been used in the laboratory setting to study various aspects of cardiovascular health, metabolic disorders, and inflammatory diseases. It is not currently approved for use in humans.
