Short definition | gene therapy (jeen THAYR-uh-pee) An experimental treatment that adds a new gene, or replaces or repairs a mutated (altered) gene in the body's cells to prevent certain diseases, such as cancer or to treat. Gene therapy can also be used to train the body's immune system to recognize and attack cancer cells, or to protect healthy cells from the effects of cancer treatment. |
