Guild

Guild (/ɡɪld/), from the Old English gildan meaning "to pay, serve", is a term used to describe an association of people for mutual aid or the pursuit of a common goal.

History

The concept of a guild originated in Europe during the Middle Ages. It was a predecessor to modern trade unions and professional associations, often formed by craftsmen or merchants. The term is still used today to refer to certain professional organizations, particularly in the fields of medicine and law.

Medical Guilds

In the context of medicine, a guild can refer to a professional organization or association of healthcare professionals. These guilds often provide support, resources, and advocacy for their members. Examples of medical guilds include the American Medical Association and the Royal College of Physicians.
