A Healthcare professional (pronunciation: /ˈhelθˌker prəˈfeSHənl/) is an individual who provides preventive, curative, promotional, or rehabilitative health care services in a systematic way to people, families, or communities.

Etymology

The term "Healthcare professional" is derived from the words "health care" and "professional". "Health care" (also spelled healthcare) is from the Old English hǣlth meaning "wholeness, a being whole, sound or well," and carian meaning "to care for, undertake, take in hand, conduct". The term "professional" comes from the Latin professio meaning "public declaration".
