Hypermania

Hypermania (pronounced: hi-per-may-nee-uh) is a term used in the field of psychiatry to describe an elevated or irritable mood state that is above mania but below delirium. It is often associated with bipolar disorder and can be characterized by increased energy, decreased need for sleep, and heightened levels of activity.

Etymology

The term "hypermania" is derived from the Greek words "hyper" meaning "over" and "mania" meaning "madness". It was first used in the late 19th century to describe a state of extreme mania.
