Kegel Exercise

Kegel exercise (/ˈkeɪɡəl/), also known as pelvic floor exercise, involves repeatedly contracting and relaxing the muscles that form part of the pelvic floor, now sometimes colloquially referred to as the "Kegel muscles". The exercise is named after Arnold Kegel, an American gynecologist, who developed these exercises as non-surgical treatment for genital relaxation.

Etymology

The term "Kegel exercise" is named after Dr. Arnold Kegel, who was the first to publish a method for exercising the pelvic floor muscles in 1948. The term "pelvic floor exercise" is a more general term that refers to the physical exercise of the pelvic floor muscles.
