India

India (IPA: /ˈɪndiə/), officially known as the Republic of India (Hindi: भारत गणराज्य), is a country in South Asia. It is the seventh-largest country by land area, the second-most populous country, and the most populous democracy in the world.

Etymology

The name India is derived from Indus, which originates from the Old Persian word Hindus. The latter term stems from the Sanskrit word Sindhu, which was the historical local appellation for the Indus River. The ancient Greeks referred to the Indians as Indoi (Greek: Ινδοί), which translates as "The people of the Indus".

Health Care in India

Health care in India features a universal health care system run by the constituent states and territories of India. The Constitution of India makes provision for free healthcare for all its citizens.
