Interrupted

Interrupted (/ɪnˈtəːrʌptɪd/), from the Latin interruptus, is a term often used in the medical field to describe a process or action that has been stopped or broken off before it could be completed.

Etymology

The term "interrupted" is derived from the Latin word interruptus, which means "broken off". It is a combination of the prefix inter-, meaning "between", and the verb rumpere, meaning "to break".

Medical Usage

In medicine, "interrupted" is often used to describe a variety of situations where a normal process or action is stopped or broken off. For example, an Interrupted Suture is a type of suture in which each stitch is tied separately, as opposed to a continuous suture where each stitch is connected.

Another example is Interrupted Aortic Arch, a rare heart condition in which the aorta is not completely developed, resulting in a break in the aortic arch.
