Ionized

Ionized (pronounced /aɪˈɒnaɪzd/) is a term used in Chemistry and Physics to describe an atom or molecule that has gained or lost one or more electrons, resulting in a net electric charge. The process by which an atom or molecule becomes ionized is known as Ionization.

Etymology

The term "Ionized" is derived from the Greek word "ἰόν" (ion), meaning "going," the present participle of "ἰέναι" (ienai), to go. This is in reference to the 'movement' of charged particles in an electric field.
