Jesus Christ

Jesus Christ (/ˈdʒiːzəs kraɪst/; from the Greek: Ἰησοῦς Χριστός, Iēsous Christos) is the central figure of Christianity, who is believed by Christians to be the Messiah promised in the Old Testament of the Bible and the son of God.

Etymology

The name "Jesus" comes from the Latin Iesus, which was derived from the Greek form Iēsous. The Greek form is a rendition of the Hebrew Yeshua, a variant of the earlier name Yehoshua, or in English, "Joshua". The name "Christ" is derived from the Greek Christos, meaning "anointed one". In the Bible, the title "Christ" is used as a title, hence its common reciprocal use "Christ Jesus", meaning "The Messiah Jesus".
