Limb Development

Limb Development (pronunciation: /lɪm dɪˈvɛləpmənt/) is a complex biological process in Embryology that involves the formation and growth of the limbs in an organism.

Etymology

The term 'Limb Development' is derived from the English words 'limb' and 'development'. 'Limb' (Old English 'lim') refers to an arm or leg of a person or animal, and 'development' (Late Middle English) refers to the process of developing or being developed.

Process

Limb Development begins in the Embryo stage, where the limb buds start to form. This process is regulated by several genes and proteins, including the Sonic hedgehog gene and the Fibroblast growth factors. The development of the limbs is a part of Organogenesis, the process by which the organs of the body are formed.
