MSI - A change that occurs in certain cells (such as cancer cells) in which the number of repeating DNA bases in a microsatellite (a short, repeating DNA sequence) is different than inheritance of the microsatellite. MSI can be caused by errors that are not corrected when DNA is copied into a cell. It is most commonly found in colon cancer, stomach cancer, and endometrial cancer, but can also be found in many other cancers. Knowing if a cancer has MSI can help plan the best treatment. Also called microsatellite instability
