Marine biology (/məˈriːn baɪˈɒlədʒi/) is the scientific study of organisms in the ocean or other marine or brackish bodies of water.

Etymology

The term "marine biology" is derived from the Latin word marinus meaning "of the sea" and biology, which is from the Greek bios meaning "life" and -logia meaning "study of".
