Names (pronunciation: /neɪmz/) are a method of identification used to distinguish individuals, places, objects, and concepts. The study of names is known as onomastics.

Etymology

The English word "name" comes from the Old English nama, which is derived from the Proto-Germanic *namô. The word is related to the Old High German namo and the Gothic namo, all of which mean "name".

Types of Names

Names can be categorized into several types:
