Nitric oxide-releasing acetylsalicylic acid derivative - (pronounced) (NY-trik OK-side-reh-LEE-sing A-seh-til-SA-lih-SIH-lik A-sid deh-RIH-vuh-tiv) A substance being studied to prevent colon cancer. It is a form of aspirin that gives off nitric oxide gas and is less irritating to the stomach lining than pure aspirin. It is a type of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID).
