Nomegestrol Acetate

Nomegestrol Acetate (noh-meh-jes-trol a-seh-tate) is a synthetic progestogen that is used in hormonal contraception, menopausal hormone therapy, and in the treatment of gynecological disorders.

Etymology

The term "Nomegestrol" is derived from the words "nor", "methyl", "gest", "oral", and "progesterone". "Acetate" refers to the acetic acid ester.

Pharmacology

Nomegestrol Acetate is a progestogen that has antiandrogenic effects. It binds to the progesterone receptor and has a strong progestational effect. It also has some antiandrogenic activity and does not have any estrogenic, glucocorticoid, or mineralocorticoid effects.
