Short definitionNuclear medicine - (pronounced) (NOO-klee-er MEH-dih-sin) branch of medicine that uses small amounts of radioactive substances to take pictures of areas in the body and treat diseases. For cancer, the radioactive substance can be used with a special device (such as a PET scanner) to find the cancer, see how far it has spread, or see how well treatment is working.
