Palmer College of Chiropractic

Palmer College of Chiropractic (pronunciation: /ˈpɑːlmər kəˈlaɪdʒ ɒv kaɪrəˈpræktɪk/) is a private chiropractic college in Davenport, Iowa. It was established in 1897 by Daniel David Palmer, the founder of chiropractic, and is considered "The Fountainhead" due to its founding status in the chiropractic profession.

Etymology

The college is named after its founder, Daniel David Palmer, a grocer turned magnetic healer who is credited with performing the first chiropractic adjustment in 1895. The term "chiropractic" comes from the Greek words cheir (hand) and praxis (practice) to describe treatment done by hand or hands-on therapy.

History

Palmer College of Chiropractic was founded in 1897, two years after Daniel David Palmer performed the first chiropractic adjustment. The college was originally located in the Ryan Block building in Davenport, Iowa, before moving to its current location in 1913.

Academics

The college offers a Doctor of Chiropractic degree program, as well as undergraduate and graduate programs in related health sciences. The curriculum includes courses in anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, and chiropractic techniques, among others.
