PGY (pronunciation: P-G-Y, from the acronym Post-Graduate Year) is a term used in the medical education system primarily in the United States, Canada, and some parts of Australia to denote the level of residency of a medical graduate.

Etymology

The term PGY is an acronym for Post-Graduate Year, which refers to the years of residency training that a medical graduate undergoes after obtaining their Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree.
