Pipotiazine

Pipotiazine (pronunciation: pi-po-ti-a-zine), also known as Piportil, is a typical antipsychotic medication of the phenothiazine class. It is primarily used in the treatment of schizophrenia and other forms of psychosis.

Etymology

The term "Pipotiazine" is derived from its chemical structure, which is a piperidine derivative of thiazine. The prefix "Pipo-" comes from "piperidine" and "-tiazine" from "thiazine".

Usage

Pipotiazine is used in the management of manifestations of psychotic disorders. It is designed to reduce the symptoms of psychosis, such as hallucinations, delusions, and disordered thinking. It is also used to manage agitation and combativeness in patients with schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders.

Like other antipsychotic medications, Pipotiazine can cause a range of side effects. These may include drowsiness, dry mouth, blurred vision, constipation, and extrapyramidal symptoms such as tremors, rigidity, and akathisia.
