Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS)

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (pronunciation: pah-lee-SIS-tik OH-vuh-ree SIN-drohm), often abbreviated as PCOS, is a common health problem caused by an imbalance of reproductive hormones. The hormonal imbalance creates problems in the ovaries. The etymology of the term "polycystic" comes from the Greek words "poly" meaning many and "cystic" referring to cysts.
