Poroma

Poroma (pronunciation: /pɔːˈroʊmə/) is a type of benign skin tumor that originates from the sweat glands. It is also known as Eccrine Poroma or Sudoriferous Poroma.

Etymology

The term "Poroma" is derived from the Greek word "poros" which means passage or pore, and "oma" which is a suffix used in medical terminology to denote a tumor or growth. Thus, "Poroma" essentially refers to a tumor or growth that originates from the pores or sweat glands.

Description

Poromas are typically small, benign tumors that are often pink or red in color. They are most commonly found on the soles of the feet, but can also occur on the palms of the hands or other parts of the body where sweat glands are present. Poromas are usually asymptomatic, but can sometimes cause discomfort or pain, especially when located on weight-bearing areas of the body.

Diagnosis

Diagnosis of a Poroma is typically made through a combination of physical examination and histopathological analysis. A biopsy may be performed to confirm the diagnosis and rule out other types of skin tumors.

Treatment

Treatment for Poromas typically involves surgical removal of the tumor. In some cases, other treatment options such as cryotherapy or laser therapy may be considered.
