Psychic Surgery

Psychic surgery (/ˈsaɪkɪk ˈsɜːrdʒəri/) is a type of alternative medicine practice that involves the purported creation of an incision using only the bare hands, the removal of pathological matter, and the spontaneous healing of the incision.

Etymology

The term "psychic surgery" is believed to have originated from the paranormal community, with "psychic" referring to the supposed mental powers used by the practitioner to perform the surgery, and "surgery" referring to the medical procedure itself.

Procedure

In a typical psychic surgery procedure, the practitioner will begin by preparing the patient, often through a series of meditation or prayer rituals. The practitioner then makes a show of inserting their bare hands into the patient's body and removing what they claim to be diseased or harmful tissue. The incision then appears to heal spontaneously.

Criticism and Controversy

Psychic surgery has been widely criticized by the medical community and is considered a fraud and deception. It is not recognized as a legitimate medical procedure by any national or international medical organization. Critics argue that the "surgery" is a trick, with the practitioner using sleight of hand to create the illusion of creating an incision and removing tissue.
