San Francisco (pronunciation: /ˌsæn frənˈsɪskoʊ/), often referred to as SF, is a city located in the state of California, United States.

Etymology

The name "San Francisco" is Spanish for 'Saint Francis' and was named after the mission, Mission San Francisco de Asís, established in 1776.
