Swinging (pronunciation: /ˈswɪŋɪŋ/), also known as wife swapping or partner swapping, is a non-monogamous behavior, in which both singles and partners in a committed relationship engage in sexual activities with others as a recreational or social activity.

Etymology

The term "swinging" is a recent derivation from the older term "wife swapping", which was used in the late 1950s and early 1960s. The term "swinging" was first used in the context of social, non-monogamous sexual activity in the late 1960s.
