Tehran (tə-ˈrän, -ˈran)

Tehran is the capital city of Iran, and one of the largest cities in the Middle East. It is located in the north-central part of the country and is the economic, cultural, and political center of Iran.

Etymology

The name "Tehran" is derived from the Persian word "Tehran" which means "warm slope". The city was named for its warm climate and its location on the slope of the Alborz Mountains.
